L.A. Wanliss
L.A Wanliss (She/her) is a teacher and is the CEO of L.A.Wanliss Editing and Consultancy. She has released a poetry e-chapbook imago and is the dramaturge for Quilt Performing Arts Company. She is completing her MFA in Creative Writing at The UWI St. Augustine. She is published in many journals and has been awarded prizes in creative writing and theatre.
This poem was written for and in response to Colin Robinson's poem "We Never Followed the Hummingbirds". This poem is about my journey to Trinidad to begin my MFA in Trinidad and my reflecting on my own experience through my encounters with hummingbirds. It’s about the flight I had to take and flight many people don't/can't take. Colin Robinson was a queer advocate in Trinidad and Tobago, a poet and columnist and just an honest soul who sadly passed away in 2021.
